My Mother My Friend

You knew me before I was born

You gave me life and heard my first cry

Held me close so I could feel your heart beat

Whispering sweet lullabies to sooth my fears

My mother, my friend

Opened your arms when I took my first step

Picked me up each time I fell

You could fix anything, even scraped knees

Blew kisses in the wind to me

My mother, my friend

You watched me grow from tomboy into womanhood

Gave me wisdom on my first mistake

The courage to not to look back

And the strength to keep rising above it all

My mother, my friend

Taught me patience, understanding and compassion

To laugh out loud and to laugh at oneself

Be proud, be humble and to be strong

I love you, I miss you, I need you

My mother, my friend
